Strawberries and Ice Cream

On the last day of my parents' trip we wanted to do something that none of us had ever done before and that would be fun for all of us. We decided to do go pick strawberries, something I've been wanting to do since we moved down here.
My parents and I had tons of fun, but the girls didn't like it as much as we thought they would.

Here they are with the Strawberry Guy. He looks like just a fun character, but also stops you when you leave to make sure you haven't piled your bucket too high or taken too much of the stem off your strawberries:
They had fun at first:
Picking strawberries with the help of grandparents:
Aren't they pretty?

Lindsey wanting to eat them:

Then the fun began. The ground was a little wet with many fallen/squished strawberries. That results in the best smelling muddy ickiness ever.
Not so great for the toddlers who don't like to get messy:
Luckily Pap Pap was there to save the day:

Pretty good lot:

I guess they don't mind getting dirty if whatever they are playing in is dry. Once they get messy from wet things they freak.

She liked the strawberries so much, she saved some on her nose for later:
After picking strawberries in the sun, we were hungry for a treat. After quite a driving excursion, we finally found a cute ice cream place that is super close to our apartment. (that I didn't know existed until last week)
It was really yummy:

Cleaning off the table as it drips down her hand:

That night we had our ward talent show. The primary president is a dance teacher and choreographs way cute dances for all different ages in the show. Whitney and Tyler got to dance together and it was adorable.
Here she is with her pals:

I'm still trying to learn this camera and I don't quite know how to get it to not focus on the things closest to me, but enjoy the picks regardless:

Toe touch:
Got a little hip action in:
It was such a great visit and we were so grateful they came and had lots of fun with us. It was so much fun to explore and feel like tourists for a few days.

On Vacation

The last three days we spent so much time in hotels and new places, I felt like I was on vacation! My mom didn't want to go to any chain restaurants while they were here, so we explored a lot and tried lots of new things. On Friday we went to Mary's Family Restaurant in Oceanside. They serve breakfast all day and we noticed a jumbo cinnamon roll for $5. It seemed a little pricey, but also sounded yummy so we asked the waitress. She looked at us like we were stupid and pointed to a plaque on the wall:

Apparently we were supposed to know they were rated the best cinnamon rolls in San Diego. Of course we couldn't pass it up and we started request two rolls for the six of us, but the waitress said one was enough. She was right:
It was huge and lived up to it's reputation! It was fluffy and warm and just really tasty. My dad had some fun taking pictures pretending he ate the whole thing:

My girls love to swim and had to every time we went to the hotel. The pool was too cold, so we hung out in the spa the whole time. Whitney refuses to go into the ocean but she'll jump right into a pool.
 Splashing Pap Pap:
We started out in normal clothes, thinking we'd just put our feet in, but the girls had a different idea and we promptly put them in their swimsuits.
 Climbing all over Mum Mum:
Then we headed to the pier to play at the beach:
My parents like the cold water a little more than the rest of us:

The girls were very content playing in the sand and getting dirty:

 Love these little munchkins:

 Serving me a treat:

After that we headed back to the hotel. The girls LOVE being in hotels. Whitney loves little notebooks, so she always takes the bedside pads and pens and goes crazy and Lindsey does whatever Whitney does. Here they are taking my parents food order:
The weather was gorgeous this weekend. Perfect temperature. When is the last time you ventured out of your comfort zone and tried something new in your area? Stay tuned for more faux vacation fun!
